Peg & Ter’s is a bar that transcends tradition and modernity to offer a comfortable, classy and overwhelmingly accessible & welcoming public house for Shelburne’s residents and visitors alike. The namesake are owner Tina’s parents – quintessential mid-century Connecticut hosts, who were gracious, unquestioning hosts to all, and oddballs with fine taste and rounded culture. The bar aspires to embody Peg & Ter’s unique open-armed hospitality and their timeless taste in aesthetics, while marrying those elements with a decidedly modern simplicity and lack of pretension that will make the bar welcoming to all patrons. The aesthetic will be a subsequent mashup of classic materials and styles with a modern, urban sensibility of restraint and careful consideration. A mix of light grays & whites, black, hardwoods and accents of brass, the interior will feel comfortable and inviting without being overdesigned, as might a mid-century study or lounge of a host with sensible and fine taste.
It is in this balance and tension between tradition, modernity, restraint and eccentricity that the identity of Peg & Ter’s draws it’s unique vibe, and which is embodied in the casual, bold and simple design of the logo icon and logotype. A pair of cocktail glasses with a burgee – an iconic sailing symbol of designation – implies enjoying company, and the hand-written logotype imbues the casual comfort that Peg & Ter’s will offer to patrons.
