A blues woman is one who turned their plight into an offering of song, food, magic or art that empowered themselves and others around them to conjure the strength to persist and pursue the promised land. The Blues Woman is a Southern American restaurant in Copenhagen that seeks to embody the values, vision and power of the African American blues women throughout history.
The Blues Woman is foremost about community, space and gathering. Southern food is a vessel. While it will be a unique offering in the Copenhagen restaurant landscape, Chef Amanda has a deep cultural stake in the cuisine of her ancestors, and will leverage that position to create delicious food as a means to create an open, honest, safe space for folks of all backgrounds, but primarily women of color, to gather, share stories, be supported, nourished and build momentum in their respective endeavors.
The logo is a minimal gesture drawing of Billie Holiday laying down her blues. It embodies the blues woman namesake and speaks to the simple, modern, elegant aesthetic of the danish palette, and the meandering, intertwining, fluid lines of the song and color mosaic represent the community melting pot concept of both the restaurant, and also the historical roots of the Great Migration and Harlem Renaissance both resulting in confluential explosions of culture, creativity and empowerment.
